Captain Dave’s is a registered Cremated Remains Disposer in the State of California. Our captain travels offshore in compliance with all applicable regulations and performs the scattering with care and respect. Following the service, we provide a custom certificate with the date and GPS coordinates of the scattering location for your records and remembrance.
Dana Point’s coastal waters are home to dolphins, whales, sea lions, and other marine life. While sightings are never guaranteed, marine animals are sometimes present offshore during a scattering. Many families take comfort knowing their loved one is returned to a vibrant, living ocean
Optional flowers or other biodegradable tributes may be included upon request.

Yes, biodegradable flowers, flower petals, or wreaths may be added upon request for an additional fee. Non-biodegradable items cannot be placed in the ocean.

We try to accommodate requested timeframes upon request, but services are scheduled based on vessel availability and ocean conditions.

Yes, arrangements can be made for combined unattended scatterings if desired. We generally allow up to two sets of cremains. If you have more than two, please get in touch with us.

Yes. Pet remains may also be scattered at sea. No permit is required for a pet.

Yes, you can ship the cremains via USPS Priority Mail Express. A Priority Mail Express Cremated Remains box (BOX-CRE) is required for all cremated remains shipments. Please visit the USPS website for detailed instructions. We are not responsible for the cremains while they are under the care of the U. S. Postal Service.

Typically, if we receive the cremains Monday through Wednesday, we will disperse the unattended ashes at sea within 72 hours. Services are scheduled based on vessel availability and ocean conditions. If conditions are unsafe, the scattering will be rescheduled for the next safe opportunity. Cremated remains are respectfully secured in our private facility until the scheduled scattering.

In many cases, yes. We are often able to accommodate specific offshore locations, depending on distance, ocean conditions, and regulatory requirements. If the requested location requires additional travel time beyond our standard unattended scattering service, additional fees may apply.
