Dana Point whale watching passengers are seeing more gray whales than ever before!
We are thrilled to ring in the New Year with Mar Yvette and the Good Day LA team for another LIVE whale watching broadcast aboard our boat. This time our safari out of Dana Point Harbor was aboard our new 62-foot luxury power catamaran, Lily. Mar had heard about the remarkable number of gray whales that we’re seeing right now and was excited to join Captain Dave on another whale watching and dolphin safari adventure.
Lily was launched in October 2013 as a multifaceted boat that offers not only whale watching with luxury accommodations, but also has the capabilities to help rescue entangled whales, even if it means staying with the whale overnight for multiple days. Lily is also equipped to help further dolphin and whale research via our photo recapture program.
Our dolphin and whale watching safari was blessed almost immediately after departing Dana Point Harbor when a passenger spotted a gray whale. Despite a wall of thick fog that loomed ahead of us, the sun shined above and we were able to stay with the gray whale for quite some time. It showed very well and fluked on every dive. At point a pod of common dolphins came over and were bow riding with the whale! By the end of the whale watching trip we had seen 4 gray whales and a large pod of common dolphins.
Thank you so much to all of our whale watching passengers who woke up extremely early and braved the chilly morning air to join us!
