Catalina Island from Dana Point

When Capt. Dave and I first met, our favorite getaway was Catalina Island. It wasn't unusual for us to take friends there either together, or on our own boats. As Dolphin Safari grew and our boat was needed for it's daily Dolphin Safaris, we found there never a window for us to enjoy a trip. Once we purchased Manute'a though, it was one of the first things that Dave wanted to do...use it for a day trip to Catalina! With that said, we have created what we hope is the ideal one day trip to the Island.

Blue whale watch

Departure Time 7:30 A.M

Blue Whales

Huge Dolphin Pods

Flying Fish

Sea Lions

Mola mola

about 3.5 to 4 hours

We leave early, and only take up to 30 passengers (not 49). On the way over, we will take our time and do as much whale watching as possible. A straight passage is usually about 2 1/2 to 3 hours, but we're allowing extra time so we can search for the Mighty Blue Whales that love to play in the 'Channel' between Catalina and Dana Point. This 'Channel' is also where the largest dolphin pods have been seen... groups as large as 10,000. With the extra time we are allowing, we can spend more time with them. We might even see some of the schools of flying fish that are only seen around the Island.

about 3 to 4 hours

There are so many things to do in Avalon.
Rent a golf cart and check out the sites, rent bikes, snorkel, go on an underwater "sub" ride and see the incredible kelp beds and the huge schools of fish that dwell there. Go for a walk to the Botanical gardens, or the historical casino, shop, or rent a beach chair and take a nap. Whatever you choose to do,you will feel as though you have stepped back in time and place to a quaint seaside village on the coast of the Riviera.

We'll serve Mrs. Capt. Dave's Triple Fudge brownies.
