On December 24th we were blessed to see nine Gray Whales plus playful pods of Common Dolphin. And one of the whales we saw, nicknamed Betty, has tail flukes that are almost entirely white. As if she took a dip through Christmas snow!

The American Cetacean Society – Los Angeles Chapter (ACS/LA) Gray Whale Census has counted 246 whales through December 25th, a record number of grays for this point in 31 seasons!
This can also be one of the best times of the year to see our favorite species of black & white marine mammals: pacific white-sided dolphin and orca (killer whales).
